Soonga story

Years later, he smelled the same scent. How many years have passed?

He was by the door of the three-floor wooden house’s top floor in which he could never have entered since his childhood.

He was so close to that door for the first time in his life. Was it locked? If so, where could the key be? He reached to the door. He pulled down the handle, and retreated. The door was opened instantly and smoothly. He took a deep breath. He stepped his most curious but bashful pace. The door was closed loudly as soon as he was right behind the threshold.

Darkness...

He started to sweat and tremble because of fear. His determination was easily seen in his eyes even in that darkness. He took his lighter out of his pocket. He looked around. “There should be a small window” he said. He walked forward and he pulled the curtains down rancorously. Dust of the time is aired...

The room was almost empty. There was only a table by the wall, and a chair in front of the table. While walking to the table, he realized an old, dusty, and worn book. Then being sad and tired he sat on the chair. He glanced at the room full of several dreams belonging to his childhood. He reached to the book reluctantly, opened the cover… and…

A few letters appeared from the dusty pages. They whirled around each other and they hung on for a little while. “Soonga” He couldn’t give meaning to what he read. The question which he was wandering, released from his mouth.

“What is Soonga?”

The word disappeared. New words appeared.

“The soul of music”

The words were hanging in the air in front of him. He couldn’t believe that he was talking to a book but he continued reading. The book wrote the reality he had never heard…

“The first day when the light of the sun touched the earth…Something was missing when everything started that day. Actually, everything was in order. The wind, the water, even animals were making sounds, but there was no audience.

After a while, a couple of flesh showed up. Soul gave life to the flesh. For the purpose of hearing the sounds... Then you arrived, the others followed you.

You walked a long path together…so long…You saw the sounds, you touched, you heard, and you felt the sounds.

At a point on the way, the sound disappeared suddenly. The magic was gone. Deafening silence began.

You wanted to hear again…

You missed…. You waited…

Yet you couldn’t have returned. The way was long and you had to continue. You decided to imitate the sounds. You blew, you beat, and you stretched the wires…

You listened…The sounds played with each other. “Music” was born. You suited words on to the music, and you named them.

But still there were missing points…

You taught yourself how to look around, question the reasons, and name what you think.

You discovered new things and named them. You started to remember what you have known already since your existence in world.

You said, “Music should have a color” and named it as “tone”. You said, “It should have a shape” and created “note”. You said, “If it had a soul, its name would be Soonga”… then you looked around. In fact, everything had souls.

A cat, a bee, a butterfly, and even an ant had a soul. Music should have had one, too.

Whenever you listened to the song, you had different feelings.

Actually, the thing you felt was the soul of the music. Every time you found a different Soonga.

You always danced with it, every time a different Soonga taught you how to enjoy your life, how to save your life from monotony and paradox.

Your cells were alerted by this music for a while ago, its effect reduced gradually, you forgot. But, the thing that reminded it to you was the touch of the song’s Soonga on your lips. And, it touched you in different ways in every music. Sometimes it stroked, and sometimes it beat, and even it frustrated you or made you dizzy.

You purified your flesh by Music; there was another Soonga at the edge of unhappiness and tranquility.

You can see the Soonga beside you whenever music touched your ear.

If you really believe...”

The book was closed with this sentence. He sat on that chair unconsciously for hours may be for days. He thought what he’d read.

Just as you did…

What will you do now? Will you deny your soul as if you are unaware of that fact? Or will you be a part of it…
